Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Department of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a type of artificial insemination. Sperm that have been washed and concentrated are placed directly inside of your uterus during ovulation. This helps healthy sperm get closer to the egg when it’s released by your ovaries. It’s a common fertility treatment for couples or individuals wishing to conceive.

Before

Certainly, here are common tests conducted before Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) with brief explanations:

1.HSG (Hysterosalpingography): An X-ray procedure to examine the uterus and fallopian tubes, checking for abnormalities or blockages.

2.FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone): Blood test to assess ovarian function and egg production potential.

3.LH (Luteinizing Hormone): Blood test to determine the timing of ovulation.

4.AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone):Blood test to evaluate ovarian reserve and estimate the remaining egg supply.

5.Semen Analysis: Evaluation of sperm count, motility, and morphology to assess male fertility.

6.Infectious Disease Screening (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis): Tests to ensure a safe procedure by checking for potential infectious risks.

Types

1.Conventional IUI (CIUI): Sperm is prepared in the laboratory, concentrating and isolating healthy sperm, which is then directly placed into the woman’s uterus during the ovulation window.

Treatment

During an intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure, sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a small catheter. The goal of this treatment is to improve the chances of fertilization by increasing the number of healthy sperm that reach the fallopian tubes when the woman is most fertile.
